Schools collecting items for area food pantries

Once again, Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation will be partnering with elementary schools in a month-long food drive to benefit area food banks. All of the food collected will be distributed in time for the coming holiday season.

Like last year, non-perishable food items will be collected by school children who will compete for prizes to be awarded by CEMC. Each participating school will set a collection goal for its classrooms, and the competition will be between classrooms in each grade level. The food drive will run from Oct. 1 through Oct. 28.

Participating schools in each county are:

Cheatham County: Pleasant View Elementary and Ashland City Elementary

Montgomery County: Cumberland Heights Elementary and Sango Elementary

Robertson County: Coopertown Elementary and East Robertson Elementary. CEMC is working with the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office to coordinate distribution of collected food.

Stewart County: Dover Elementary and North Stewart Elementary

Sumner County: Clyde Riggs Elementary and J.W. Wiseman Elementary

In addition to the individual food drives going on in the schools, CEMC business offices will be conducting their own food drives during October. CEMC employees will collect all the food donations at the end of the month and deliver them to the food pantries in each community which are responsible for distribution to individuals and families.
