Why Do We Trim Trees?
Cumberland Electric provides safe and reliable electricity and broadband services to over 100,000 homes and businesses across five counties. In order to continue doing so, we maintain over 8,600 miles of power lines and over 5,200 miles of fiber lines. One of the ways we maintain these lines is through trimming trees. Trimming trees now helps keep the power and internet on later.
While it might seem like a simple task, trimming trees is one of the largest expenses every year for an electric co-op. Our team, along with tree trimming contractors, clears limbs, brush and sometimes even entire trees that are too close to power and fiber lines or other electrical equipment. While these practices don’t eliminate every outage for the service area, they do cut back on the number.
While some outages are out of our control like car accidents or inclement weather, many outages can be prevented. We work to keep the lights on by making sure trees and other vegetation are kept away from power lines.
Trimming trees allows CEMC to provide safe and reliable electricity and internet to our members and lineworkers. It also helps save our members money in the long run.
